All of Maisan CLOSED to Climbing.
We went to Maisan today to hit Al Bawi, which the local climbers told me last week was still open. At the gate, the park informed us in no uncertain terms (but nicely) that the park was entirely closed to climbing. Not just Opera House and even Yisan Myo! They are pointing people to Hakamri (near Imshil). . . which, let's say, was no Maisan. Beautiful multi-pitch moderates and crazy cobblestones with amazing views. I lost a wonderful chapter, which will be replaced with a what went wrong?!
The park line (recited at their offices) is that it's near temples. . . and when asked more, that Jinan county decided they didn't want it in the park. Wish Lindsey was there to give the whole account:-) but anyway. . . if you don't want to climb, it's still a nice park, but the reason d'etre. . . some amazing memories . . . and good times. . . the climbing there is done (at least for the moment, and boy after seeing the way they intercepted us (we had obvious gear on us. . . they offered to keep it for us . . . and I suspect they would have sent someone to look for us if we hadn't left it.
Korea really needs something like the access fund? Does anyone know what the closest lobbying group is? Probably something in the KAF? Curious (any Koreans know?)
