This Weekend

Hello, I've been in Korea a few months and really just started climbing. Myself and a couple other beginners are dying to get outside as soon as possible. We only have shoes and harnesses for the most part, and since we are all new don't really know where we should go. I'd like to meet some more climbers in the area (Sinchon) to regularly go out with, too. Anyone up for this weekend or have any suggestions where some newbies can go to climb without their own rope, draws, etc? Thanks!
Florence

eh. . . not sure where I'll be (but you'd be welcome to join). . . if you have a rope (if you didn't you might go and meet others?) Kwanaksan probably will have some people. . . Byeongpung, maybe) . . . Both of these areas have easy top-rope access, with Byeongpung having more beginner-friendly routes. Both are easy to access from the city using public transportation.

If you don't have a rope, hitting one of the local articifical walls might be a good way to meet people. . . Koreans (or foreigners) will surly let you jump on. . .

Hey! thanks for the tips! I don't have rope so I guess I'll try out the outdoor artificial walls. Do you have any recommendations?

Well, depending where people are coming from, Boraemae, Eungbong, and Ttuksom all attract lots of friendly people.

Good question Paul, as "byeongpung" is "folding screen" and there are many "byeongpung" rocks!

The one I meant was in Uiwang, just south of Seoul literally 5 minutes or less up a trail behind Uiwang City Hall.

Hi Florence,

I'm a somewhat beginner too (did indoor climbing in college, but not much outdoor, and it's been a few years so I'm pretty sure I fall into beginner category). Anyway, I've been wanting to find some people around Seoul to go out regularly with (preferably Sundays?) to easy climbing spots. I prefer top-rope over lead climbing and have only done artificial walls. I'd like to try some easy routes to get back into the swing of things. Mind if I tag along with your group? I also don't have gear, but I can pick up some shoes and harness easily.

Cheers,
Jenni

Hey,
Yea were definitely going out next weekend to either kwanaksan or uiwang, so you and anyone else that wants to come please join! Id get shoes, but you can probably borrow my harness and the guy I am climbing with has rope and gear so no worries about anything else. If you want to contact me please use my email because I have to use PC bang to login :/ [email protected]
