Samcheonpo Sea Cliffs View Full Version of Samcheonpo Sea Cliffs

Province Name: Gyeongsangnam-Do
City Name: Sacheon
Type of Area: Rock Climbs

Bolted sea cliffs, with some DWS potential (but also some rocks in the water) . . . easily accessed from Sancheonpo, now assimilated into Sacheon City south of Jinju in Gyeongsangnam-do.

We were there on a pretty rainy day, and didn't try the mostly overhung, but seeping routes. Bolts and anchors looked pretty shiny. Possible TR access from the trail (well maintained) above. . . many trees to rap from.

Swimming potential (not the cleanest water) and DWS, though not so deep as one would like. Still, this rocky beach can be pretty quiet, save the Halmoni collecting sea-things and the adjossi fisherman.

right near the Jinal observatory, the sea-cliffs on the penninsula that juts out between Namildae Beach and Samcheonpo Port are bolted and interesting looking-- with plenty of overhangs and roofs to get you pumped, but not dry (they seep).

The last bit of the road is unpaved. Bike-able, too. See attached maps^^

Safety Concerns
Rock fall, especially when people are on the trails above. While all seems shiny and new now, I am always suspect of sea-cliffs, as salt tens to corrode metal.

Gear to Bring
10 draws and a 50 meter rope would more than suffice.

Additional Comments
grab what you need on the way. . . you don't want to give up a muddy pull out parking space to go back and get something. Nothing available immediately by the crag.

Someone came by recently and rewrote all the names and grades, so it's much easier to find routes now, especially on the back wall.

Also, the road out has been completely paved, so no more mud pit. Take the road right to the end (where the pedestrian arch bridge is) and turn left instead of walking over the bridge.

Some of the routes are only available at low tide (a 5.9 and a couple 10c's), so I use this website to check the tide table:
