Muchek Mountain View Full Version of Muchek Mountain

Province Name: Gyeongsangnam-Do
City Name: Gimhae
Type of Area: Rock Climbs

The climbing here is short and easy for the most part. The basic climbing rate would be aroun a 5.9. There is an area that has a nice overhang with some 5.13 to 5.14. The holes are all anchored and the bolts are stong, but this is a high traffic area and sometimes people are walking below. Careful with your ropes.

Sorry I only know by car. In (east)Gimhae city by Inje University go straight towards Kaya Land. Travel Towards 'Sang Gae' 상계 then look for SamyungGim 삼량진, before Samyungim you want to turn towards Sengnim 생림면 this is the climbing area. Ask around at this point you will have to hike up alittle ways.

Safety Concerns
The rock Quality was very rough and pourous, so I dont suggest earing shorts. But really good for beginners. Wear old climbing shoes as your rubber will rub away.

Gear to Bring
You will only need a minimal set. 60m rope and maybe 5 to 8 quick draws per route. IF you want to top rope they have extra anchors at the top.

Additional Comments
This is a high traffic area on the weekends so be ready to deal with people walking around your equipment and also travel time will be long.

By car, take city road 23 or national road 58 (they come together by Mucheksan). . . signs, and the obvious mountain on your R as the poster notes.

Via public transport, NOT recommmended. Get a bus bound for Samnangjin at Gimhae Bus Terminal. After 30 minutes or so, look for the signs (andd the Mt.) on your right and get off. You might ask the driver to let you off at Mucheksan when you board. It's a hike, but on the weekend you're likely to hear/see climbers. There are 7 developed crags on the mountain and 122 developed routes (as of 2004) 5.8 to 5.13, short (a few are 20m, but most are half that or less)-- the most bolts on any route is 10.
