The Dongducheon climbing center
Submitted on July 12th, 2012 by RABxBIT Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeonggi-Do    City: Dongducheon
photo This gym was a GREAT find, and I say find because it took some looking to get to the front door. Once you get inside you get a feeling of cleanliness and organization. There are cubby holes and sandals provided as you are walking in. I don't speak Hongul unfortunately, but upon realizing this I was immediately directed to a staff member with a very accurate translation app, who obviously understood more English then he could speak. He effectively explained that the gym charges 20,000KOW per month and collects 3 months in advance. He happily agr... [Read More]

The North Face Climbing Gym (노스페이스, "TNF")
Submitted on August 29th, 2011 by griddable Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeonggi-Do    City: Seoul
photo This is one of the biggest, nicest gyms in Seoul, and one of the few indoor gyms with vertical climbing. Many strong folks train here, including champion competition climbers. The staff and patrons are all quite friendly and happy to climb with newcomers. Mr. Lee, the gym manager, speaks good English, is friendly and helpful with beta and making up problems for people, and is a real beast himself. Several of the Korean patrons also speak good to excellent English, and now a contingency of foreign climbers also frequent TNF

There's a cafe-sty... [Read More]

The River Beds(Rb's)

photo Granite. As good as it gets in Korea. The best bouldering area in Seoul?I don't know? There's about 50 problems now.Mostly good stone and some hard projects. The boulders were first climbed by Unio Joubert and Scott Hiebert in 2007. Dave McAllister, Dave Wallach and Kim Lee also got in on the action with some of the best FA's in the area! The area might have around 100 problems when it's all over.... [Read More]

Tower Palace Climbing Wall
Submitted on May 28th, 2007 by skinsk Type: Gyms    Province: Gyeonggi-Do    City: Seoul
photo Let's say you're living in Kangnam and don't want to mess with the rif-raf at the public walls. In the VANTT complex (2nd floor above Artisee Cafe) in the Tower Palace Complex there is a climbing wall. . .

The only? way to use it is to join the gym (at just over W2.1mil a year). . . though that gives you access to a great lounge, fitness club, pool, sauna. . . and the most professional, attentive and congenial staff anywhere (though limited English).

Interesting marked routes (a lot packed -into the relatively small space) and it seems we... [Read More]

Triple Wall (YoungOne)
Submitted on May 28th, 2007 by skinsk Type: Artificial Walls    Province: Gyeonggi-Do    City: Seoul
photo 6m X 12m 110-180 degree overhangs (including a 3m roof, this wall is more typical of it's day (1999) than today's mega walls and themed-monsters! It used to be open 5-9 M-S in season (as it's in a parking lot). . . these days, I think it's mostly used for classes, but it's still seeing use. Call or check inside YoungOne's store for more info: 02)390-6235-7... [Read More]

Ttukseom Climbing Wall
Submitted on May 28th, 2007 by skinsk Type: Artificial Walls    Province: Gyeonggi-Do    City: Seoul
photo Not the run of the mill wall, Ttukseom is the first of this design I've seen. Lots of interesting routes and an extended base for bouldering. It backs up to a busy highway, but faces the Han River and is set beside a waterfall-fountain. The park can be crowded, but the wall wasn't when I visited, and the crowd (some of whom I knew) were friendly.... [Read More]
