매드짐 (Mad Gym)

Mad Gym Sport Climbing is a relatively new gym in 금천구 / Geumcheon-gu. The head instructor is 김인경 / Kim In Kyeong.
This gym has more space dedicated to bouldering, but the circuit routes are maybe a little more popular. On some nights, half the gym is closed for coached training sessions.
Mad Gym is somewhat unique in that both its instructors (김인경 & 문지연) are female. Both have many years of diverse climbing experience. 김인경 also sp... [Read More]

Mir Climbing Center is the only well populated climbing center in Suncheon and Gwangyang. There is always a decent crowd at the climbing center on weekday evenings and Saturdays. As most climbing gyms in Korea, this gym does not focus on bouldering and does not have any climbs that require a climbing rope. However, it is a very good gym to meet friendly climbers and endurance training. They also have special classes for those who are new to climbing and want help improving their climbing.
This gym has been opened since July 2014.

It is located in the middle of mountain with a very nice skyscraper view of the center of Busan, but you can get up there by 30 minutes walk from nearest subway station. It has fairy small space like 3m high X 7m wide and also has a outdoor artificial wall approximately 10m high X 7m wide, which opens from March to October. Usually you'll be able to enjoy the whole gym alone like a private gym- I myself like this kind of surroundings the most!
Indoor gym hours are 09:00 to 18:00, closed every Monday. Open on weekends.
Free of charge all y... [Read More]

There is no cost per day - the owner Mr. Oh (a really nice guy) said just to stop by (maybe the first time is free?) - but membership is 70,000 per month...
The gym is open Monday-Friday from 1-11. It may be possible that if you make friends with the owner and show yourself to be respectable and trustworthy, you may be allowed to come outside of regular gym times (ex: mornings, weekends, etc...). Also, the owner and gym members regularly go to natural climbings areas, such as Seonunsan, and you would likely be able to join them.
There are a... [Read More]

안산클라이밍 (Ansan Climbing)

안산클라이밍 / Ansan Climbing is among the newest gyms in Gyeonggi-do, opened in 2010. It's a basement gym but with some windows. Clean and well-lit. A really nice aesthetic here. 김병국 / Kim Byeong-Guk, the gym's owner, is a well-established climber from Ansan. He's really mellow. Most the climbers here seem to welcome foreigners.
Are loaner shoes available? (I'm not sure yet)

The 내손동 (Naeson-dong) CruxZone gym is an average-sized bouldering room on the 6th floor of a building. The gym is technically located in Uiwang, the neighboring city. It is owned by the Camp 4 shop (also in the area).
Most the climbers here only practice endurance training.
Very little English is spoken, by staff or by other climbers, so it's not the best place if you can't speak Korean well. In my month climbing here, I observed the members doing more non-climbing than climbing. That ranged from hour-long stretch... [Read More]
