우리암 Our Rock
Submitted on May 22nd, 2006 by skinsk Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Wonju
photo Our Rock is a short and rather isolated rock 50m or so from the road on the outskirts of Wonju. Apparently it's visible from the street only in winter, when the foliage is thin. Vertical face climbing with a corner. Mostly crimpy stuff. Beware, there is a behive! If you are allergic to bees, you might want to avoid this place.

16 routes from 7-11 meters high (the majority being 7). 2-5 bolts per route. Pro looks old/rarely used.... [Read More]

의암암장 - Eui Am Am Jang
Submitted on October 26th, 2009 by yandy Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Chuncheon
photo Twenty-two routes from the ground. four of which have second pitches. This is weird, quartz-like rock. Quite polished, but with sharp edges. Loads of features, but a lot of the holds are negative, so takes some working out.

This place was bolted in late 2008, so the bolts and anchors are still shiny and new. None of the routes are over 30m.... [Read More]

photo Only fifteen routes, but some sweet lines. Except for one climb, they're all single pitch, from 10-30m, mostly face climbing on granite.... [Read More]

Bolt Rock Climbing Center
Submitted on December 21st, 2007 by climbhigher14k Type: Gyms    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Wonju
photo This is a brand new bouldering gym, built by Jin Tec Jeon and the Bolt Rock climbing club. It is fairly small, but the people are very friendly and as of Dec. 2007 all of the holds are brand-new!!! There are a few of the traditional 20+ move routes, but there are also many boulder problems as well.

Jin Tec speaks English, climbs hard, and is a great teacher.

Membership is 30 dollars per month.

Hours for the gym are not set in stone. Call the gym to see if anyone will be around when you want to go!... [Read More]

Byeong Pung Am
Submitted on September 14th, 2008 by climbhigher14k Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Donghae
photo Byeong Pung Am, located in the beautiful Mureung Valley, has about 18 routes, many of which are two pitch climbs. The rock is high friction (and somewhat sharp) granite. Most of the climbs have a bolt or three, but there are only three or four that are fully bolted. There are easily protected cracks, face climbing, and a couple of overhangs. Where the place really shines is in 5.9 cracks. They are Suweeeeet! The anchors are decent, although some of the less traveled climbs have ratty webbing- it wouldn't hurt to bring a knife and some fre... [Read More]

Chuam Beach Bouldering
Submitted on September 15th, 2008 by skinsk Type: Bouldering    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Donghae
photo Good quality rock (occasionally sharp) with 30?40? potential problems in a variety of ranges. Many of the landings are beach landings, for others, a spotter or pad would be nice.
Overhangs, aretes, roofs. . . balancy faces. . .

The rocks are on the far right of the beach. . . keep walking around or over for more and more!... [Read More]

Chuncheon Artificial Climbing Wall
Submitted on October 10th, 2006 by skinsk Type: Artificial Walls    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Chuncheon
photo 15m high by 12m wide, this wall was built in early 1997 and seems a bit dated. It's easy enough to find, steep enough for a good workout (holds are a little old and slick) and close to amenities. Floodlights on top at night do little to illuminate the wall (though they make it easy to find). Might be possible to climb up the ladder/scaffolding on back and throw a toprope.

It's a municipal wall, run by Chuncheon Climbers, the local club.... [Read More]

Chuncle Ridge - 춘클릿지
Submitted on June 17th, 2010 by yandy Type: Rock Climbs    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Chuncheon
photo Seven pitch ridge with beautiful views over Eui-am lake and dam. Bolted by Chuncheon Climbers in 2008. If you take the original route it's fairly easy: 5.9 - 10b. A couple of pitches have alternative, tougher routes in the 11s.

50m walk up from the route map at the road. Ignore the grades on the sign. It was put up by the council, who haven't a clue about the climb.

Pitch 1:
5.9 - 30m - 5 Bolts.
Easy face onto ridge.

Pitch 2:
5.10a - 30m - 2 Bolts.
From the anchor, climb past the tree directly in front of you for about 5m. ... [Read More]

photo The limestone at this crag varies from exceptionally nice to merely climbable. Lots of small huecos and finger pockets. If you've been to Sununsan, then you'd find the routes here similar (except not as long and generally not as steep). There are a good few multipitch climbs here and enough grade variations to hold an interest for everyone. Although I've encountered quite a few spinning bolts at this place, the Koreans who climb here seem to have no trouble taking whips on them with no ill effect.... [Read More]

Geojin Wall
Submitted on May 27th, 2010 by jason in Sokcho Type: Artificial Walls    Province: Gangwon-Do    City: Sokcho
photo Large outdoor wall on the coast with a sea view. Almost new, and a good all round wall. The wall is broken down into a vertical section where most of the route is vertical, however with 3-4 small where overhangs exist. There is another section that is a high grade and holds continued and sustained overhang moves for the whole climb with a mix of holds to challenge strong climbers. The wall height is around 20 Metres.... [Read More]
