Wondrous rock climbing gym, tucked away in an indiscreet basement near Ilsan Beach in Ulsan. The owner, Byeong HO, is extremely hospitable and speaks a fare amount of English. This Gymís allure is obvious in the pictures; the grandiose SIZE!! You can traverse to your heartís content and your poor dedoís disdain. The gym opens around 2 and closes around 10:30 or 11, open Mon.-Fri (outdoor climbing on the weekends and he is happy to take leaching, gearless Wagukins, JOY). These hours are extremely flexible and usually cater to his regulars. He knows when they come and when they leave. Unfortunately, there are no one time user fees, the only way to climb here more than once is to get a membership. Memberships cost 60.000 won/month. The gym is bereft of other exercise gear, outside of a set of dumbbells. If climbing isnít a workout enough for your super human needs you can take a jog at Daewangam Songnim (Pine Forest) Park, which has a multitude of scenic trails and exercise equipment scattered throughout. The park and the Ulgi lighthouse are worth a trip to this area in itself, check it out here
http://english.ulsan.go.kr/12Sceneries/Main.php. Ilsan Beach is also a stones throw away, so you can make a day of it.

A one time trial climb is free, though he would prefer if you came as a guest of a member. Shot me and email and I can meet you there.

For out of towners, You will start at the train or Express bus station. Either get in a cab and tell them Ilsan Beach-e (it will be about a 10-12.ooo Won ride, sorry mate) or get a bus. Preferably the 401 or 133, but the otheres also work. For Ulsanites, you are wanting to go to Ilsan Beach, so if you have wheels and are coming from the down town area, follow the signs for Bangeogin (Bangeo-dong) and then Ilsan Beach.
Buses, you can take: 401, 133, 104, 106, 107, 108, 121, 112, 1114, 103, 102. There are so many buses that go by the beach, check out UlsanOnline.com for more bus info from your specific area. All of the routes will be coming from the North, so the warning that you are about to get off the bus is that the heavy industry on your left (the east) breaks and it opens up to the ocean in the background. A Homeplus will be on your right (the only Homplus to this area, so don't worry). There is a stop after the homeplus. You will have crossed the Major Intersection for the beach (it is very distinct with carnival games, booths, and bars sprinkled on either side. The beach is at the end of this street, BRILLIANT). Get off here. The gym is on the east side of the street. Meaning you need to cross the rode oh bus rider. Walk up the hill, keep your eyes peeled for a sign with a guy climbing on the bottom left corner of a double glass door. This is the only hint of the gym. The building it is in has a billiards room on the second floor (surprise!) and a resturant adjacent. The resturant has a large Daisy like flower as it's logo. This can help you find the building. I know I am making this sound impossible to find. IT isn't. For a taxi, tell them Ilsan Beach-e, Get off at the major intersection for the beach, walk up the east side of the street (closest to the beach, is you are directionally deficient) up the hill. Look for the double glass doors with the sign. To all. If you get to the next set of lights, after the beach intersection, you have come to far. If you have a bike shop on your side of the street, you are on the wrong side, get to the other side. If you are walking and you get to Homplus, you went North, the wrong direction. Go south, up the hill. Have fun. Email me if you need any more help.

This is a great gym with great people. It is moving to Downtown at the end of December. City hall I think.

Hey! Does anyone know the address for the new place downtown??
I really want to go, but don't know where it is!

Here are the directions for the new building, located in downtown Ulsan, near city hall:
If you are on a bus and going south, AWAY from Tehwa River, get off at the City Hall bus stop and keep walking south, the same direction as the bus. When you get to Dotjil-ro (돋질로, a fairly large street), take a RIGHT and walk for maybe five minutes. You will cross a couple little side streets I think. The gym is located in the basement and it is a little hard to see the sign because it's hidden in the stairwell a little bit, but I didn't have any problem finding it. Good luck!
