KOTR is looking for a new owner. Are you a developer, a climber and have plans to stay in Korea for a while? If so, email me at [email protected]

Description
this place is basically a huge maunfactured ice wall. some folks have taken the time to rig a piping system that takes water from a nearby river to form a huge waterfall over a 60-70m rock face. in the winter, this waterfall freezes into some fat ice for some rad climbing.
Directions
i imagine a bus must head toward maebawi from sokcho, but don't hold me to this. as an option, you could always take a cab, although it could be costly. be forwarned... the mishiryeong mountain pass which leads to maebawi, is quite treacherous in the winter and prone to closures.
Safety Concerns
this place can be quite hazardous due to the large crowds that climb here. i've witnessed massive chunks of ice been shorn off by climbers without a word of warning. a friend of mine was hit on the shoulder by a falling piece of ice and carried a bruise around for weeks (luckily nothing broken).
Gear to Bring
bring as many ice screws as you're comfortable leading on, plus a 60m dry rope.
Additional Comments
there are a few coffee/soju hofs and convenience stores around. for some reason, even on nice days, this place is subjected to some bitter wind, so remeber to layer up and bring some down if you've got it.

Rich, Carey, both Michelle's & Maria wish to thank MR. Lee of the Mountain Rescue Service for guiding us thru the back country near Sokcho (Jungsudae)
And a big thank you to MR.***, (he knows who he is) also from the Mountain Rescue Service. We all had a big party, did some serious Ice Climbing & SOJU drinking.
See you all again in 2006.

Additional Directions: Maebawi is easy to reach on a bus. This roadside icecrag is at the junction of 46 and 56 just north of Seoraksan NP near Baekdamsa. Very hard to miss. Local buses run past here hourly-ish from either Sokcho or Inje/Wontong. From the West side of the peninsula it is easiest/quickest to get a bus to Inje or Wontong then connect to a local bus. Buy a ticket to Baekdamsa and communicate that you need to go a little East of there to the road junction.
