photo Granite slabs, faces and overhangs. There are 29 listed routes of up to 3 pitches, some with slight variations. There are no grades listed, but range from easy decently bolted slabs to overhanging cracks and aid. Fixed pro is a mixed bag. . . shiny new bolts, rusty old bolts, old pitons, fixed cams, slings. . . many cracks require and others take gear of pretty much all sizes! Many routes have beefy eye-bolts cemented in at the belay/rap stations.

The climbing is on Maebong (매봉), Sirubong (시루봉), Sajabong (... [Read More]

photo The type of rock is kind of sedimentary rock.
Route style is face, overhang, crack, crimp.
Length is about 12-15 meter.
Number of routes are 11... [Read More]

photo The rock is a bit crap, compressed sedimentary but my geology is pretty weak. Hard enough not to panic though. It is conveniently located near the city. there are 20+ routes and you can trad the rock but it has been set up for sport. Some hard overhang but most of the routes are rather short. 10 meters a couple at about 15+ meters.... [Read More]

photo Over hanging, some loose rock. The clib called"mounitain 119" is called that for a reason. Skip it. its a little scary at the top.... [Read More]

photo Beautiful and remote setting in Northern Kangwondo. . . not so far from the North Korean border. . .Nice granite; lots of friction but some loose bits and hollow sounding flakes.

Saenam and Jangsu Bawis (the main formations) offer 16 routes up to 5 pitches from 5.7 (easiest P1 is 5.8) to 5.12; also some aid. There's a stellar 11b roof on the right 3 pitches up!! (Almost worth it to come for this; you could easily rap to the start from the hiking trail that goes around to the summit. Wicked exposure and views. Routes to 130 meters.

Routes... [Read More]

photo One of the most beautiful and quiet places I have been in Korea. Very little traffic (local?) and very off the beaten path! You stand in an ampitheatre around a very high falls (50m?), surrounded by steep bluffs on 3 sides. The rock is multicolored, the landscape lush. Slab (slight), vertical, roofs, overhangs, faces, (bolted) cracks. . . you'll bust out all your moves here! 7-26 meters (though there are multipitch climbs that will get you higher, and if you aspire to do them 2 ropes might be nice for a quick rappel). Bolts seemed solid, though... [Read More]

photo The type of rock is varied , as are the types of climbs. Some begin as slab and end up overhanging and, vice versa. There are a few multi-pitch climbs here and some are regular climbs that are 32 meters so tie a knot in the end of your rope. The bolts are changed on a regular basis but the 'pig tails' suck.... photo Another fine granite peak easily accessed from Bisandae Mountain Shelter less than an hour from the main entrance to Seoraksan. This peak, slightly behind and left of the General (Janggunbong) offers multipitch routes of a high quality. Most of the development has been recent, while 1981 saw climbers on the SW face, there was a wave of development in 2004 and 2 new routes in 2006, just right of the ridge on the N face) put in by Kolon Climbing School and well-known climbers, including Go Mi-young. Ireukgongcheon is a 10d 7 pitch, well bolted ex... [Read More]
